Job Title: Maintenance Engineer (Temporary – Approx. 4 Weeks)
Location: Portsmouth
Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:00 – 16:00
Hourly Rate: £17.23

About the Role:

TLP Recruitment are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established company on a temporary basis for approximately four weeks. Reporting to the Crane Technician Supervisor, Terminal Managers and MHE Supervisor, you will play a vital role in maintaining and servicing a range of port equipment to ensure operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Key Objectives:

  • Perform efficient and effective maintenance of equipment and facilities within company budgets and standards.
  • Ensure all cranes are operational, meet their expected lifespan, and comply with statutory regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and follow instructions from the Crane Technician Supervisor and MHE Supervisor.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of cranes and associated equipment.
  • Carry out repairs and servicing across the equipment , including forklifts, tow tractors, trailers, reach stackers, man-lifting equipment, and company vehicles.
  • Provide out-of-hours on-call support for cranes and MHE as required.
  • Record all work undertaken and hours worked accurately.
  • Assist other areas of Facilities when needed.
  • Complete relevant paperwork and upload documentation.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical background and relevant qualifications – Essential.
  • Certification in relevant equipment – Desirable (training can be provided).
  • Practical experience with Forklifts, Tugs, and lifting equipment.
  • Solid knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Strong hands-on tool skills and a commitment to working safely.

Personal Attributes:

  • Good decision-making and problem-solving ability.
  • Strong team player with technical expertise.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Clear communicator with strong organisational skills.
  • Self-motivated with high attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working at height and using MEWPs.
  • Holds a current clean driving licence.
  • Positive, flexible attitude with a hands-on approach.
  • Able to manage and prioritise a varying workload effectively.
  • Willingness to work overtime when necessary.
